The short version: Lumafolk never asks who you are and never tracks you. It sends us anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, which help make it better, and nothing that identifies you.

Who we are

Lumafolk is an app for iPhone and iPad made by Gerardo Pacheco Sicart, an independent developer. In this policy, “we” means Gerardo Pacheco Sicart, and “Lumafolk” means the app, its widgets and this website.

What we collect

Lumafolk has no accounts and no sign-in, and we don’t run servers that store your information. To learn what works and to fix what breaks, the app sends us two kinds of anonymous data through Google’s Firebase:

  • usage statistics, such as which screens are opened and which toys are played, with the device model, iOS version, language and country;
  • crash reports, which say what the app was doing when it crashed.

They carry an identifier that belongs to this installation of Lumafolk, not to you. They aren’t linked to your identity, aren’t used for advertising or tracking, and aren’t combined with data from other apps or websites. Lumafolk doesn’t use your device’s advertising identifier and never asks to track you. Google processes this data for us as a service provider. We don’t sell or share personal data, because we never have any.

What stays on your device

To work, Lumafolk keeps a few things on your iPhone or iPad:

  • the folk in My folk, and which folk each widget shows;
  • your widget settings, such as the toy buttons, the time, and name and mood;
  • the toys you’ve played and the keepsakes they left in your folk’s worlds;
  • your app settings, such as the app icon.

This stays on your device, shared only between the app and its own widgets. Deleting the app deletes it.

iCloud

Lumafolk doesn’t sync anything through iCloud today. If it ever does, it will use your own private iCloud database, which only you can read, and we’ll update this policy first.

Purchases

Lumafolk Plus is a subscription sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles the payment, and we never see your name, email address or payment details. The app checks your subscription on your device with Apple’s StoreKit. You can manage or cancel it in the Settings app under your name, Subscriptions, or from Lumafolk’s Settings.

Your clock, time zone and appearance

Folk sleep at night, and their worlds change between day and dusk. For that, the app reads your device’s time and time zone, and works out sunrise and sunset from your time zone’s city, on your device. If you choose to, it follows your device’s Light or Dark mode instead. Lumafolk never asks for your location.

Notifications

If you start Lumafolk Plus’s free week, Lumafolk asks whether it may send you one reminder, two days before the week ends. The reminder is scheduled on your device; nothing is sent to us. If you cancel, the reminder is removed.

Crash reports from Apple

Separately, if you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may share anonymous crash reports and usage statistics with us. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.

This website

This website counts visits with Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to learn which pages are read and which App Store buttons are tapped. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, none of it loads until you choose Accept on the cookie banner, and you can change your answer any time from Cookie settings at the foot of every page. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, it isn’t loaded at all.

The greeting at the top of the home page shows the time and city from your browser’s time zone; that happens in your browser and is never sent anywhere. The language you pick at the bottom of the page is remembered in your browser. Our web host, Cloudflare, may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running.

Children

Lumafolk is for everyone. It collects no personal data from anyone, children included.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change ever meant collecting something new in the app, we’d say so in the app first.
